Screen Territory announces Northern Territory REALISATOR 2016

Applications are open for Territory based filmmakers to take part in the intensive three-day development program REALISTOR.

Screen Territory Director Penelope McDonald said REALISATOR is a development program unique to Screen Territory that has been offered to Territory filmmakers since 2010.

REALISATOR is supporting Territorian filmmakers in getting work developed and made. It provides professional development and opportunities to connect with producers and broadcasters. More than 30 Territory filmmakers have had the opportunity to participate in REALISATOR sinceits inception.

REALISATOR builds on Screen Territory’s previous development initiatives.”

Filmmakers come into REALISATOR with several ideas for documentary and factual programs, and after a few days of an intensive masterclass, including working on their projects, they get the opportunity to pitch to the marketplace, to potential broadcasters.

REALISATOR provides participants with the opportunity to work intensively on their factual or documentary projects in a supportive environment with experienced producers.

“Territorians have developed projects through REALISATOR, several of which have continued to move forward to be picked up by broadcasters and are in the process of being filmed.” Ms McDonald said.

Tim Parish, a Darwin based filmmaker and previous REALISATOR participant, has recently had two documentary projects commissioned by broadcasters.

SLAM TV, an online series about slam poets, has been commissioned by ABC Arts, while a project he is working on with Alice Spring based Alex Kelly, This Changes Everything, is being commissioned by SBS.

REALISATOR is made possible with financial support from Screen Australia.

REALISATOR starts with an intensive three-day development workshop from March 21-23, during which six individuals or teams will work on their ideas for documentary and factual projects.

After completing the workshop, participants are given the opportunity to submit a project for grant funding and mentor support for further development.

Applications close on Sunday, 21 February 2016. For more information call Screen Territory on 8951 5141 or email screen.territory@nt.gov.au.
