NT on Screen at Event Cinemas

NT on Screen at Event Cinemas

Local movie buffs are in for a treat this September with a huge line-up of free screenings of NT-made productions at Event Cinemas Palmerston from next Tuesday 20 September to Sunday 25 September 2022

A week-long event, NT on Screen is part of this year’s Darwin International Film Festival, which opened last night at the Deckchair Cinema with the NT premiere of We Are Still Here.

The NT on Screen at Event Cinemas Palmerston free screenings include NT-made productions Outback Ringer Series 2, True Colours, Matt Wright’s Wild Territory, MaveriX and Barrumbi Kids.

To close the week there will also be a special screening of Three Thousand Years of Longing with Ray Martin AM in conversation with Oscar winning Australian cinematographer John Seale AM ACS ASC (Three Thousand Years of Longing, Mad Max: Fury Road, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and The English Patient).

NT on Screen celebrates a record year of screen productions created and filmed right here in the Northern Territory from the Red Centre to the Big Rivers to the Top End, our amazing destination has been a huge draw-card for Australian producers.

From MaveriX, an epic 10-part children’s drama for ABC ME that was the largest local production ever to be filmed in the Red Centre, to Barrumbi Kids, also a 10-part children’s television series that was filmed in Beswick and around the Katherine region the Territory’s screen industry has never been stronger.

Importantly, all five of these major productions are NT stories, created by Territorians, and finding national and international success.

NT on Screen week is providing local audiences the chance to see a fantastic selection of Territory made productions on the big screen.

Cinema-goers will get to walk the red carpet and meet some of the stars including:

  • True Colours star and Yolngu actor Rarriwuy Hick (plays Detective Toni Alma and is a Logie and AACTA Award-winning actor who is also known for Wentworth)
  • MaveriX stars Darcy Tadich and the NT’s own Pedrea Jackson; and
  • Barrumbi Kids leads Nick Bonson & Caitlin Hordern who star as best friends Tomias and Dahlia along with local NT actors Sophie Emberson-Bain (Miss Wilson), Frances Djulibing (Grandma Caroleena), Scott Hall (Sandy) and much-loved Australian star Justine Clarke (who plays Mrs Armstrong).

Come along to see Territory-made productions on the big screen, walk the red carpet, win prizes and meet some of the stars from your favourite shows.
