AACTA Festival session highlight – Journey Home, David Gulpilil
Running 4 to 8 February on the Gold Coast, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Festival offers the screen industry a chance to go behind the scenes, gain career‑defining insights and connect with Australia’s leading creatives. A powerful and moving documentary capturing grief, community and ceremony, Journey Home, David Gulpilil follows the late, renowned Indigenous actor as he is laid to rest on his homeland of Gupulul in Arnhem Land, NT.
Narrated by Hugh Jackman and cultural storyteller Baker Boy, the film was granted rare access to ancient Yolngu ceremonies honouring one of Australia’s most significant film industry figures.
Produced in the Northern Territory with support from Screen Territory, the film reflects a deep commitment to Territory‑led storytelling.
Join co‑directors Maggie Miles and Trisha Morton‑Thomas, alongside producers Rachel Clements and Jida Gulpilil, as they share the creative, cultural, technical and logistical journey behind making this remarkable film.
The session will be moderated by Gillian Moody‑Ardler on 5 February 2026, 10am.
